There, he developed the school's training programs. He also took an active part in public relations, sales and marketing. His systems development included employee hiring, firing and training practices, and administrative and financial record keeping.

Joey Furlan - Manager of The Wow Experience

Joey Furlan was born and raised in Coquitlam, B.C., attending school there and playing hockey from the age of 6. Never a strong player, Joey enjoyed the game at a house level for many years before deciding it was time to step it up a notch. In the spring of 2002 Joey gave Pete a call at the Tricities Puckmasters and his outlook on the game, and life, was forever changed. Going to from a mediocre house player to Junior in after 2 seasons of training, Joey began to enjoy the game more and saw potential in the opportunity to have hockey lead a path for his life to follow. After graduating in 2006 Joey attended Simon Fraser University, and was one of three 18 year olds to play on their hockey team.

Joey continued to attend school and play hockey, running a small roofing crew in the summer before the tables were turned and Pete called Joey in the summer of 2007, to see if he was interested in continuing his hockey career by becoming a coach at his old training facility. Joey instantly jumped on the offer and quickly helped turn the Tricities location into one of Puckmasters’ fastest growing franchises. Bringing a strong creative sense and a dedication to quality, Joey was called again by Pete and joined the team at head office in the Fall of 2008 as the WOW Experience Manager.

Bruce Fox, Business Consultant

Bruce was a Unit Manager when he attended his first ever franchise conference in Quebec City in 1973. He was there in the room when the A&W Root Bear was first introduced. Benefiting from the systems and opportunities that a strong franchised brand offers, he went on to become an Area Manager in less than three years. This phase of his development set the tone for the rest of his career. He could see opportunity presented through the world of franchising and he knew that this was where he wanted to stay and grow. He noticed that hamburger patties are round and flat.

Bruce was the Vice President of Foodservice Operations at Boston Pizza International. He led the overall direction of the company's concept and managed the development of their operating systems for 16 years. He spearheaded both their Expo 86 and International expansion projects. When it surpassed 100 locations, Fox introduced new operating protocols to keep pace with the changing needs of the system. Boston Pizza's "franchise empowerment culture" is very much influenced by Bruce's efforts. During each of his final four years, Boston Pizza achieved recognition as one of Canada's 50 Best Managed Private Companies as judged by The Financial Post and Arthur Anderson. Pizzas are round and flat, he observed.

As President of Smitty's Canada, he introduced innovative modernization strategies that were designed to convert the franchisor's business model from reliance on declining demographic groups and introduce new customers to the cross Canada location network. His "Standards Task Force" worked one on one with franchisees to build up value in their operations as they re-imaged their locations and shifted their thinking towards delivering consistency and executing on tightly defined brand standards. A new National Quality Assurance program was introduced under Fox's guidance and system wide revenues broke the $100,000,000 barrier for the first time in history. Pancakes, like other things Bruce knew about, seem to be quite round and flat.

Fox was instrumental in expanding one business from 2 corporate units to almost 50 franchises in just over two years. Others have had more conservative growth patterns but always Bruce's focus is on building sustainable brands using proven franchising protocols.

After serving three terms on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservice Association (CRFA) Bruce was awarded a lifetime designation as an "Honourary Fellow" of the association.

Hockey pucks are round and flat. Bruce is sticking with what he knows??

Ron Tugnutt, NHL Goaltender, Advisor

Current CBC Hockey Night in Canada broadcaster and former All-Star NHL goaltender brings a wealth of hockey knowledge and experience to Puckmasters Board of Advisors.

Ron Tugnutt was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in the 4th round, 81st overall in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. Although used primarily as a backup for the first three seasons, on March 21, 1991, Tugnutt stopped 70 of 73 shots to earn a 3-3 tie against the Bruins, the second highest number of saves made in a regular season NHL game.

After an inconsistant year in Quebec in 1992, he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers, and spent the next three years bouncing from Edmonton to Anaheim to Montreal.

However, in 1995, Tugnutt signed a one year deal with Washington and spent the entire NHL season with the AHL affiliate Portland Pirates. Focused and determined, he took Portland to the Calder Cup Finals. This impressive showing got Tugnutt a deal with the Ottawa Senators, worked hard and improved his game each season, coming into Ottawa fighting to be a back-up to splitting games with Senator's starter Damian Rhodes for the next two seasons.

In 1998-99, Tugnutt had the best season of his career. He posted a G.A.A of 1.79, placed second in the league in SVP% at .925, had a career high in wins, and tied a career high in shutouts. This great play, and an injury to Curtis Joseph gave Tugnutt the opportunity to play in the 1999 NHL All Star Game.

The next season, with Rhodes shipped to the expansion Atlanta Thrashers, Tugnutt took sole possession of the starting job in Ottawa. However, it was not to last as later that year, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Tom Barrasso. While Barrasso struggled in the his first playoffs with Ottawa, Tugnutt lead Pittsburgh to the Conference Semi Finals.

On May 4, 2000, while playing in an epic playoff game against the Flyers, he made 70 saves on 72 shots. Unfortunately, the 72nd shot was a goal scored by Keith Primeau at 12:01 of the fifth overtime, causing the Penguins to lose 2-1 after 152:01 minutes, the longest NHL game since the 1930s.

Following his performance with Pittsburgh, Tugnutt signed a 4 year deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets. During the club's first season, Tugnutt was considered their backbone. He was playing the greatest hockey of his career and was the reason the offensively challenged club had such a successful season. Tugnutt's 22 wins broke yet another NHL record for most wins on an expansion team, and his .924 SVP% was among the top in the league.

After two years with the Jackets, Tugnutt went to the Dallas Stars, backing up Marty Turco. The following year (2003-04) was considered Tugnutt's toughest year in the NHL. From the start of the season to January he only received 3 starts, and he was sent down to the minors for the first time in almost 10 years. Just 5 games in, Tugnutt pulled his groin and was out until after the All Star break. After a brief return to the Stars, Tugnutt finished off his career and is currently a color commentator for Canada's CBC.

We're very proud to have Ron Tugnutt on our team!
